Palak Mutton - Lamb Or Mutton Curry With Spinach

Pressure Cooker

Palak mutton simply means spinach cooked with mutton or lamb. Rather it is the other way round, mutton cooked with spinach. This curry is green in color and quite flavorsome. It taste extremely good with hot tandoori roti or even rice.

Ingredients

*1/2 kg lean mutton (cut into 1 inch cubes)
* 2 Big bunches of fresh green spinach
* 1 cup water
* 2 Tbsp oil
* 1 Tsp cumin seeds
* 1 Onion pureed
* 2 Tbsp ginger garlic paste
* 3 Green chilies
* 1 Tbsp coriander powder
* 1 Tsp chili powder
* 1/2 cup of thick yogurt
* 1/2 cup water
* 1/2 Tsp garam masala
* 1 Tbsp lime jice
* Salt to taste

Method

Wash the spinach leaves nicely. Boil 1 cup of water in a pot and immerse the spinach leaves in that water for 30 seconds. Refresh under cold water and make a puree. Keep aside.

Heat oil in a pressure cooker and add the cumin seeds. When they crackle, add the onion paste and saute on a medium heat till light brown. Stir continuously to avoid sticking.

Add the ginger garlic paste and saute for a minute. Now add the mutton pieces and fry for about 5 minutes till the pieces get a brown coating. Add the coriander and chili powder, green chili, salt and yogurt. Saute another 2-3 minutes then add 1/2 cup of water.

Pressure cook until the mutton is almost tender. Now add the pureed spinach and cook for 10 more minutes without closing the pressure cooker lid.

The consistency should be not too watery. Lastly add the garam masala powder and lime juice. Serve hot with rice or tandoori roti.
